About the speaker: Dr Sarah Jane Aiston’s research expertise is in the position, status, and experience of women in higher education. She has conducted extensive research into the underrepresentation of women as academic leaders, and in the most senior ranks in the Hong Kong Academy, which has been funded by the RGC (HK), HKU, and the Leadership Foundations for Higher Education (UK). Her shocking statistics on the gender balance at the senior leadership level in the eight UGC-funded universities drove HKU’s determination to lead the HeForShe movement. Sarah is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, having previously been a member of the Faculty of Education, HKU and Convenor of the Women’s Studies Research Centre. She currently sits on the University of Birmingham’s Athena SWAN committee and is an Athena SWAN national panel member in the UK.
