“Overcoming Barriers for Female Researchers”– Informal Research Gathering
“Overcoming Barriers for Female Researchers”– Informal Research Gathering
Co-organised by the Research Committee and the Gender Research Centre, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, CUHK
To build up the research culture at CUHK, the Research Committee is organizing informal research gatherings for colleagues to get together to share their experiences. To support our female colleagues on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, we are co-organizing the second informal research gathering with the Gender Research Centre (GRC), Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (HKIAPS), CUHK, with a theme on “Overcoming Barriers for Female Researchers” in March 2014.
Women researchers, especially in senior positions, are under-represented in universities in Hong Kong as well as across the world. There are many challenges that are specific to women. We need to build up an enabling environment to attract this missing talent. A panel of senior female professors will be invited to share their experience of interfacing their work and family lives while excelling in research. Their role model will be an encouragement to other women.
We would like to invite you and especially your female colleagues to this informal gathering to meet with other female colleagues, share our work-life experience, and strengthen our network so as to build a supportive research community for female researchers at CUHK. Please also encourage your female colleagues to join and celebrate the International Women’s Day.
Details of the gathering are as follows:
Date: 7 March 2014 (Friday)
Time: 12:30 – 2:00 pm
Theme: “Overcoming Barriers for Female Researchers”
Venue: The Activities Room, 2/F, Art Museum East Wing, Institute of Chinese Studies
Light refreshments will be provided.
The GRC at the HKIAPS of the CUHK is the first research unit on gender issues in Hong Kong. Members include scholars from Social Science, Humanities, Medicine, Business Administration, and other interdisciplinary fields.
