08 March 2024 International Women’s Day – Gender Occupational Equality and Men’s Share of Childcare
On the momentous occasion of #InternationalWomensDay, Gender Research Centre and Centre for Chinese Family Studies hosted the virtual seminar with 90 enthusiastic participants, sharing of knowledge, passion, and groundbreaking ideas.
Our speakers unleashed a torrent of insights. Through rigid qualitative and quantitative research, they showed us an array of important topics, from the crushing impact of caregiver’s penalty in the workplace to the crucial link between gender equality and family care. We didn’t shy away from confronting gender inequalities within academia or the often-overlooked realm of different perceptions on domestic responsibilities. The real personal stories of becoming a new parent working in academia were also shared through the whole session.
The Q&A session was very vibrant! Our esteemed speakers and passionate discussants delved into practical strategies for fostering gender-equal and supportive environments in universities and departments, recognizing the power of sharing and communication in driving mutual understanding. Our engaged audience lit up the webinar room, sharing their desire for real actions to transform universities into a more inclusive space – flexible work arrangements, acknowledgment schemes for caregiving responsibilities, and other transformative policies took center stage.
This International Women’s Day seminar unlocked a world of possibilities, amplifying diverse voices and igniting a collective vision. It showcased the power of inclusivity, reminding us that progress is best achieved when we stand united!
